Change the System: Building Black Wealth is a short film documenting the journey of Otis Ward, an Oakland high school senior, as he attends financial education classes at the University of California, Berkeley, Haas School of Business, while grappling with the pressures of leaving his hometown and starting college life. 

Following the screening, there will be a discussion of the film and racial wealth equity with Otis Ward, Carla Peterman (Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Chief Sustainability Officer at PG&E), Dr. Christine Wachira (Owner of Wachira Wines and the first Kenyan born California Winemaker), and director Brady Anderson. Moderated by Andrea Stern (co-founder of TendWell Collective).

Otis Ward - BIO
Otis Dean Ward, IV, is studying Computer Science and Engineering at Stanford University and has participated in two summer computer science internships throughout high school. His first internship was with HackTheHood through Intel over the 2021 summer, where he learned both Python and JavaScript coding. The second internship was with MissionBit over the 2022 summer, where he was introduced to Unity Game Design and C# coding. During his junior year of high school, he also took CIS 1, Introduction to Computer Information Science and CIS 6, Introduction to Programming, which are both dual enrollment courses through Laney College.
